FD-03801A: with Chris Ash,
University of Wisconsin Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach;
2010 Big Ten Co-champions

Chris Ash's philosophy behind the 4-3 Defense can be summed up in one word--Aggressive. In this overview of the 4-3, you get the basic formations, alignments and coverages of the defense that helped lead Wisconsin to the Rose Bowl and a share of the 2010 Big Ten Championship.

Ash describes the importance of being aggressive and hustling on every single play with a simple phrase--"Put the Ball Down." It is an attitude and mindset that dictates a readiness to play against anyone, anywhere at any time, no matter what the game situation.

This 4-3 Defense is zeroes in on five objectives:

  • Keep the opponent off the scoreboard.
  • We will stop the run. Make the offense one dimensional.
  • Must minimize big plays.
  • Must be great tacklers.
  • Create takeaways and score. It's all about the ball.
Using an in-depth power point presentation, Ash details every position in the defense. He explains simple terminology for alignments and gap responsibilities of the linemen, run fit concepts for linebackers (Stack, Bow, Boss and 4-Way) and man and zone coverages for the secondary.

Ash uses practice footage to show several drills that are run every day at the beginning of practice. These "defensive openers" emphasize techniques of pursuit, tackling, interception returns, stripping the ball and recovering fumbles.

To complete the package, this DVD includes a bonus PDF that can be accessed on your computer and printed for your personal use. The PDF includes:

  • Descriptions for different kinds of man and zone coverages
  • Terminology for offensive personnel groups
  • A sample defensive play call sheet
  • Player communication responsibilities in the huddle
  • Detailed outlines of everything covered in the video
Order now and lay the foundation for installing this hard hitting, relentless defense into your program.

FD-03801B: with Chris Ash,
University of Wisconsin Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Coach;
2010 Big Ten Co-champions

One of primary objectives of the 4-3 Defense is to stop the run. In this DVD, Chris Ash expands on concepts and player responsibilities to accomplish this objective. He includes nine crucial elements you need to emphasize to stop the run.

Ash teaches two types of eight-man fronts in great detail.

  • Cover 3: A three-deep, four-under zone coverage with safeties rotating to the strong side. It allows you to outnumber your opponent in the box at the point of attack and is adjustable so it can be used against any personnel or formation.
  • Tight Gray: A man free coverage that is ideal for stopping the run. Tight man-to-man coverage with a low hole and deep middle help.
For each front, Ash starts by showing diagrams of the basic fronts versus common offensive formations (lead weak, iso strong, power strong, etc.). He details alignments and responsibilities for linemen, linebackers and the secondary and uses animated diagrams to show how the defense reacts to different types of run plays. He wraps up the discussion of each front by showing several of these run fits in scrimmage footage.

This DVD includes a bonus PDF that can accessed on your computer and printed for your personal use when implementing this defense. This PDF includes all player responsibilities and diagrams discussed and shown in the video.

Pick up the key concepts and coverages you need to shut down the passing game using the 4-3 defense.

Wisconsin contains the pass with man coverages and two types of zone coverages. Match-Up Zones have defenders trying to match up with receivers in tight coverage, reading the release of the ball rather than the quarterback. Peer Zones have defenders working to get to a designated area of the field, focusing on the quarterback and getting great breaks on the ball.

Ash delivers a detailed explanation of two zone coverages.

  • Cover 3: A three-deep, four-under coverage with safeties rotating to the strong side. This flexible coverage is effective against the pass and the run and is adjustable so it can be used against any personnel or formation.
  • Cover 2: A two-deep, five-under coverage with the corners rolled up on the receivers and safeties with half-field coverage. This coverage is very good against a quick passing attack and is solid against perimeter runs.
In discussing each coverage, Ash starts by showing diagrams of the basic formations versus common offensive sets (pro, slot). He details alignments and responsibilities for linemen, linebackers and the secondary and discusses situation-based rules for these positions. He wraps up the discussion of each coverage with game and scrimmage footage showing several examples of the rules in action.

This DVD includes a bonus PDF that can accessed on your computer and printed for your personal use when implementing this defense. This PDF includes all of the player responsibilities and diagrams discussed and shown in the video.

These concepts and coverages delivered a Top 20 defense to Wisconsin in 2010. Now you can incorporate these proven strategies into your program!

The Pistol Wing-T Drills Series

FD-04257A: with Rick Stewart, Delano (CA) High School Head Coach;
former Porterville (CA) High School Head Coach. Took three losing programs to playoffs. Led Porterville to four straight playoff appearances, back-to-back section championship appearances.

Coach Stewart shows you how to install the Pistol Wing-T system starting in the spring and continuing through summer, fall, and into your season. You will quickly see why, despite having many 2-way starters, his teams finish strong each game without ever running sprints during practice.

This DVD shows annual, monthly, and daily practice plans that are discussed thoroughly so that anyone wishing to install and run the Pistol Wing-T can do so in a relatively easy manner.

Background & PhilosophyCoach Stewart evolved the Pistol Wing-T offense after coaching at four different schools. He has coached at the small, agricultural school with 600 students and no weight room, to the large, rural school of 2,000 students, to his current position at a large, inner city school of 2,000.

Stewart took all four of these schools to the playoffs with this offense and without ever coaching a scholarship player! His proven system works at all levels.

Stewart briefly shares the vision, philosophies, and goals he had to instill at all of these losing programs.

Practice Goals & Considerations
This is the "checklist" of goals and expectations of every practice in regards to turnovers, maximum reps, and conditioning with a purpose. Stewart's linear teaching progression is discussed and he shows how to match the technique to the drill to the play call.

Stewart also shows how to correctly balance full contact with no contact drills. Stewart's practice schedules always contain "hidden" individual time that gives position coaches additional time to teach important techniques.

Off-Season & Spring
Stewart shows how to get a jump on your opponents by starting your teaching after school and in the weight room when your players come back from winter break. He then goes through his day-by-day installation sequence during 10 spring practices. Daily practice schedules are shown, in addition to the sequence of motions, formations, and plays that are installed first.

Summer
Stewart allows for 12 summer practices which balances the demands of multiple-sport athletes and allows for players and coaches to enjoy their summer break. The installation schedule is continued from the spring with the goal of the entire base offense being installed before August. Stewart also shows how to approach 7 on 7 and summer camps.

August
Stewart summarizes the individual and group drills that are explained in the other Pistol Wing-T videos, but here he shows when and where the drills are inserted into the practice schedules. He then goes through his twenty August practices and how he re-installs all of the plays but now adds the "wrinkles" such key breakers, blitz pickup, and use of different formations.

At all of Stewart's coaching stops, most of the players and coaches worked during the day, so he shows a unique way of doing "double practices" without having a morning practice.

Conditioning
The Pistol Wing-T is a fast, explosive offense that requires the ball to be snapped within 3 seconds of breaking the huddle. This puts great pressure on the defense to recognize all the different formations that Stewart uses. It is also an offense designed for the 180 pound guard and 140 pound halfback, so quickness and conditioning are very important components to compete against bigger opponents. Stewart is a master at incorporating conditioning into the entire practice and challenges his athletes both physically and mentally.

In-Season and Playoffs
This section shows how to effectively use your time once school has started and how Coach Stewart uses every assistant coach in weekly game plans. Daily practice schedules are shown and discussed. He then shows how he modifies for league and playoffs so that players do not become burned out or over-fatigued, exposing them to late season injury.

Scouting the Opponent
Stewart quickly shows how his entire staff is utilized in off-season, in-season, and game night scouting. He talks about what he looks for in an opponent when devising his weekly game plan and what every coach is looking for as he calls the plays on Friday night.

This video is packed with information and coaching insights. Order now and get plans and ideas for putting in the Pistol Wing-T offense!

FD-04257B: with Rick Stewart, Delano (CA) High School Head Coach;
former Porterville (CA) High School Head Coach. Took three losing programs to playoffs. Led Porterville to four straight playoff appearances, back-to-back section championship appearances.

Take your Wing-T offense to a whole new level by implementing the Pistol Wing-T. You get the same devastating misdirection found in the conventional Wing-T, with all of the advantages of putting the quarterback in the gun.

Coach Stewart uses a PowerPoint presentation and live demonstrations to teach you all of the new wrinkles, drills and concepts in the exciting Wing-T Pistol offense. You will see the backfield footwork for all the Wing-T running plays, as well as his newest version of motion that sends the wing behind the QB instead in front of him. This change adds more misdirection to the Pistol Wing-T, which will create hesitation in any defense.

Coach Stewart opens with the Buck Sweep and the 32 G.T. emphasizing that the ball never leaves the quarterback's belly and that the running backs are responsible for all fakes. Next Stewart shows you the 36 Down, Veer and the Counter and how the same steps are used by the QB in all the plays. The Belly Series includes the G, 28 Option, 28 G Belly, 33 Belly GT and the 41 Trap. Stewart uses the Midline and Veer series out of the Pistol to put additional pressure on the defense.

Every day drills are highlighted for each position so that you will have an understanding of specific skills needed to run the offense. Adding plays that require similar footwork for the backfield allows you to efficiently install and practice both traditional Wing-T plays along with outside veer, inside veer and midline. Coach Stewart's drills teach:

Proper backfield alignment for the quarterback and each running back The backfield footwork and the coaching points to execute the motion properly to ensure the defense cannot key on one playerVarious running back drills that involve blocking and running with the ballHow to fake hand-offs and use deception to your advantageThe "knuckleball" snap that puts the laces into the quarterback's throwing hand for a quick delivery
Practice video is included that shows how Coach Stewart administers each drill and how it is tied to specific plays.

Expertly execute your backfield movements this season with excellent deception and timing!

FD-04257C: with Rick Stewart, Delano (CA) High School Head Coach;
former Porterville (CA) High School Head Coach. Took three losing programs to playoffs. Led Porterville to four straight playoff appearances, back-to-back section championship appearances.

Rick Stewart does a superb job of teaching coaches how to improve offensive line performance for the Pistol Wing-T. Coach Stewart walks through each blocking technique and then uses practice video to show how he administers each technique using heavy bags.

Stewart shows how to create proper first-step mechanics in your linemen. He preaches the power step and getting the second step on the ground before contact so your linemen can elevate defenders on their third step. His sled progression includes the 1,2,3-Down-Pull & Trap before he finishes with the Sled Drive.

Hand shields are used to simulate the more realistic block on a moving target. The use of double team and combo blocking is shown as well as the Belly Drill. A group work time allows players to work together on all types of combination blocks needed in the Wing-T.

Stewart designs each drill so linemen can respond to both odd and even defensive fronts. He diagrams each technique, drill and play so that players are prepared each week for their next opponent.

For smaller schools he shows how to use half line drills so that you can get every play installed with fewer players.

This is a comprehensive offensive line video that will assist coaches at both the middle school and high school levels.

former Porterville (CA) High School Head Coach. Took three losing programs to playoffs. Led Porterville to four straight playoff appearances, back-to-back section championship appearances.

Rick Stewart uses simple but effective processes for improving quarterback play and his overall passing game.

QB Drills
Coach Stewart provides over 20 drills for you to use to help improve quarterback play in the Pistol Wing-T system. He covers mechanics, pass play footwork, run play footwork and option footwork. Also included are sprint passing techniques, so coaches can improve their play action passing game.

In the Pistol, the quarterback is three yards from the line of scrimmage, so the 1-, 3- and 5-step drops are modified. Stewart explains how and where the quarterback needs to be based on these modifications. He also shows a highly effective approach to finding the open receiver and explains how to teach the quarterback to read defenses.

WR Drills
Coach Stewart's wide receivers drills are a must for any coach who works with receivers. The receiver section contains 15+ drills. The blocking session shows you how receivers stalk and crack. The 2,4,6 and 9 cone drill for receivers is one of the best set of drills a coach can use to work on cuts, chattering down on breaks, and catching the ball.

Stewart does a tremendous job explaining each drill with PowerPoint and practice video.

Group Drills, Simulation Drills, Screen Game, Practice Schedule
In the last section of the video, Coach Stewart gives you quarterback and wide receiver group drills, simulation drills, the screen game and practice schedule. The simulation drill allows quarterbacks to see where receivers will be at end of their routes and where the open windows will be. You'll also learn to execute eight screen plays with just three blocking schemes.

Coaches will find these drills for mechanics and footwork highly effective easy to install into their daily practice schedule.

Won the 2012 NJCAA National Championship after only four years as a program; 2012 ACCFCA Coach of the Year, 2012 IWCC led the nation in points per game (62.8) and in total offense with 598 yards per game

Karson Pike explains how he teaches the running backs at Iowa Western Community College in a simple, systematic way that allows his athletes to play fast and physical. These fundamental teaching techniques are shown at practice and in game film.

Coach Pike talks through his running back philosophy and how it fits in specifically with the up tempo no-huddle offense that IWCC has been so successful with. Coach goes through one of his base running back drills that he uses every day. This drill emphasizes the four most common cuts used in the offense and specifically on the inside zone play.

Coach Pike explains the teaching points for the running back's alignments, steps, and how to effectively read defenders from the running back position. The running back and quarterback must have good timing and footwork for a successful hand-off mesh and then the running back must attack the proper gap based on his reads of the lineman blocks. These drills will help develop the proper vertical and jump cuts, as well as skills for cutbacks and stutter steps. He also shows practice drills to emphasize these points and game film that shows running backs using these skills in competition.

A straight-forward and easy to understand scheme has allowed Coach Pike at IWCC to develop skills that his athletes can use in game situations. These skills, drills, and fundamentals show how to develop your running backs in practice so that they can perform in the game.

This video will improve your team's running backs, especially if you run inside zone in an up tempo offense.

Instill "Big Play Attitude" in your wide receivers, even when they're not catching the ball - which is at least 90% of the time.

Mike Strohmeier, Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers coach at Iowa Western Community College, has been instrumental in IWCC's national championship program. In this detailed instructional DVD, he explains wide receiver fundamentals and takes you through an in-depth analysis of the pass concepts that they marry to their inside zone run package in the High Tempo No-Huddle Offense.

Coach Strohmeier shares a short, but clear, set of expectations for his wide receivers that sets the bar high and establishes toughness and a commitment to the team.

From there he discusses several wide receiver and offensive skill group drills that can be utilized daily. At Iowa Western, the coaches broke down the skills they need a receiver to have in their offense and came up with route running, blocking, and run/pass game drills help build muscle memory for these base offensive plays. Coach Strohmeier will show you how to install scheme-specific drills for the stalk block, bubble, and QB mesh zone read. The drills force the WR to be a great blocker and fundamentally sound receiver in the quick game.

Coach Strohmeier goes through a variety of pass game tags that gives the quarterback the option to call the best play to take advantage of weak points and adjustments in a defense. The Bubble, Hitch, Gift, Stick, and Slow Screen concepts are all explained individually and how they mesh with the inside zone running game. These provide an extension of the run game and forces the defense to defend the width of the field.

High percentage throws and gets playmakers in space.

These drills and pass game tags can sync seamlessly with any spread offense looking for ways to provide options on every play. This video does a great job of showing how a highly successful team implements drills that are useful to their scheme. They aren't just doing drills to do drills. Then it goes into how the skills taught are used to execute their offense.

FD-04378D: with Donnie Woods, Iowa Western Assistant Coach/Offensive Line and Run Game Coordinator;
2012 NJCAA National Champions; 2x Midwest Football Conference Champions

Iowa Western Community College Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator Donnie Woods details the inner workings of one of the hottest offensive running plays in football today, the Inside Zone. This play has been the cornerstone of the Iowa Western offensive attack that has ranked on top or near the top of every offensive category for the past years (2011-12).

Coach Woods, whose OL unit was instrumental in Iowa Western Community College's 2012 NJCAA National Championship season, covers the different calls the offensive line makes on the inside zone play depending on the front and movement of the defense. He goes into a detailed explanation of the specific blocking rules and adjustments against the 4-3, the 4-4, the 3-4, and the 3-3 Stack defensive fronts. The defensive front will change week to week and keeping rules and calls simple makes adjustments easy in the zone blocking scheme.

Supplemented with film clips, Coach Woods' instruction also focuses on the schematic adjustments that can be utilized to handle situations that may cause complications for the offensive lineman. Woods explains two backside adjustments that allows the offense to continue to run the Inside Zone when having to adjust to dominating defensive lineman and linebackers. The Pin and Loop and the Stick concept are explained. These schemes prevents gap run through by linebackers into the A gap and a stunting lineman.

Coaches will appreciate the simple answers this scheme offers to some of the more complex defenses they face. This video will give an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator everything they would need to install Inside Zone as a cornerstone of any offense.

FD-04224A: with Tim Murphy, Clayton Valley (CA) High School Head Coach; 2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; In 2012 ranked first in the state of California (DII) in scoring (54 ppg); total yards (over 500 ypg) and rushing (over 400 ypg); During his 13 years of running the Double Wing Offense, Murphy has won four CIF titles, 10 league championships and has been ranked in the Top 50 in the nation three times!

Tim Murphy has a long history of creating great running football teams. As defenses have evolved, he has fine tuned the double wing to ensure success. Murphy has added the shotgun to the double wing and given the quarterback both passing and zone read options.

Defenders are now tasked with stopping a devastating run game and an expanded passing game.

Coach Murphy gives you a comprehensive look at the essentials you need to understand and run the shotgun double wing as your offense. He discusses the philosophy behind the system, describes the key traits that make each position in the offense successful, and how to identify the best player suited for each position. You will learn where to put your most athletic kid, your biggest kid, smallest kid, weakest kid and most athletic linemen.

As a dynamic offense, you must be able to show different offensive sets. Coach Murphy delivers eight formations off of his base set which will allow you to transition from one set to the next and stress the defense to the point of failure. He shows you the Pro, Twins, Trips, Ram, Lion, Over, Under, and Eagle, which is his direct snap to the tailback formation. Expand your playbook and make your offense more effective without forcing your players to learn new plays.

A simple numbering system is explained that coaches can easily incorporate in their offense. Coach Murphy discusses key indicators that need to be watched and identified during games such as whether defenders are penetrators or readers. He then spends time explaining how he attacks different defenses, and he discusses what defenses might do to stop the double wing.

Coach Murphy goes into detail about the execution of the 14 different blocks that are vital to the success of the offense. He uses a dry erase board to help explain the different blocks that each lineman needs to execute, and has each block named so that a player knows exactly how to execute it. You will learn blocking techniques such as the Skip Block, which is the newest and latest technique used by NFL teams, the Tunnel Block, Down and Wheel Block, Log Block, Post Block, and Reach Block.

He explains how assistant coaches are an integral part of his play calling process and how to use them to the team's advantage. You'll also see practice footage to gain an understanding of how Coach Murphy practices his offense.

Stay one step ahead of evolving defenses with the Shotgun Double Wing Offense!

As defenses evolve to defend today's spread offenses, the double wing offers a unique challenge with its physical between-the-tackles style of football. Tim Murphy's Power Series gives you multiple blockers at the point of attack and constant pounding that will eventually wear down the defense changing three yard gains into 30 yard gains.

The Power Series is an effective way to block and neutralize the defensive end and render a superior athlete a non-factor. Coach Murphy breaks down the many different blocking schemes that will wreck odd and even defensive fronts. He uses both the shotgun and zone type reads to take the double wing to new levels.

Murphy delivers a look at the power series versus a 4-3 and 5-2 defense. Defensive lines that squeeze as well as run up field are addressed as he explains the blocking rules for each play, as well as the blocking rules and techniques for each player.

Included is 24 Power, 26 Power, Over 24 Power, and 24 Power Shuffle Pass. In addition, you'll learn how to use multiple formations such as eagle, pro and twins to give the defense different looks and still run your power play. Coach uses practice film to help illustrate how the offense blocks the power play, and he uses a dry erase board to help explain the play to the viewer.

Coach Murphy shows three plays that will allow you to use your quarterback as the power back. These plays turn your quarterback into a running threat, forcing the defense to prepare for another athlete running the ball. He also shows a great shovel pass that can incorporated into the offense while using the power play blocking scheme.

You will see how defenses try to stop the power play and how to attack those schemes with motion and formations.

Use your power game like a jab punch throughout the game that will lead to a knockout in the fourth quarter!

The inside run game can get you quick yards, set up your pass game, and protect your off-tackle and outside plays. When teams want to load up to stop your power, you can counter with the trap, tackle trap or draw.

Tim Murphy presents a detailed look on how to develop the inside run game out of the shotgun double wing offense. The inside run game is the base of this system and will open up the rest of the offense.

Trap plays can pop for big yardage when the defense is trying to stop your power and outside plays. Coach Murphy breaks down blocking schemes against a 4-3 and 5-2 defensive front. He gives instruction on:

  • 21 Trap - Provides the trap block plus the lead block by the fullback.
  • 20 Trap - Delivers a trap block with the tackle leading through the hole.
  • Tackle Trap - The tackle trap play has an element of surprise built into it; a direct snap to the fullback with crisscross action behind it.
  • Wedge Play - Use in short yardage situations against any defense.
Coach Murphy designs each inside run play on the whiteboard and explains the blocking rules for every lineman. Multiple cross blocks on the line of scrimmage make reading this play difficult for defenders. You'll learn how to teach proper center technique to keep "bear crawling defenders" from stopping your wedge play. He also explains the motion and technique for all the running backs and receivers.

After each play, practice video is used to show you how the play is administered in a practice setting. Each play is run versus defenders with both a press box and end zone view.

Coach Murphy ends the video with instruction on the Trap Pass - the perfect complement to the inside Trap Game. The Trap Pass uses maximum pass protection but also gives the quarterback the option to run. You'll see several play action passes that can be very effective when a defense is selling out to stop the run. He also shows how the Pro Draw will set up complimentary pass plays later in the game.

This base play will open up the rest of your offense and keep the defense at bay.

Tim Murphy teaches what he calls the most dynamic series of his offense - the outside run game.

Coach Murphy's vast experience with the double wing gives him a great understanding of what plays complement the offense. In this detailed DVD, he explains how he attacks the perimeter with the outside run game out of the double wing offense.

A successful offense strives to control the perimeter of the defense, and Coach Murphy provides plays and adjustments you can use to get the ball to the perimeter. Murphy discusses:

  • The Trojan Series - Get the ball to the perimeter with a lot of lead blockers to outnumber the defense - similar to the old USC student body play.
  • Rocket Sweep - This quick, outside play has a great scheme with the front side pulling and reaching, and the backside pulling to influence the defense. Wing-T coaches will love this play - it's like the quick pitch with motion.
Coach Murphy shows different ways the fullback and the guards can provide false keys to deliver an effective running play. These false keys will hinder how aggressively the defense can play and prevent linebackers from successfully keying on guards and running backs. He shows different ways to get the ball into the hands of your playmakers without adjusting your blocking scheme. Murphy also gives his thoughts how you can tailor your offense to your personnel.

His whiteboard explanations and practice footage of each play will help any coach install the outside run series. By drawing each play against both odd and even fronts he offers solutions for most challenges encountered by offensive coordinators running the hybrid double wing.

This well-orchestrated outside run attack will dissect and conquer your opponent, leaving the opposition in a wake of offensive destruction.

Catch your opponent off guard and neutralize a fast attacking defense with an effective counter game.

Tim Murphy's counter series offers an excellent change up for teams who are running power plays with success and seeing the defense taking chances to get back in the game.

The counter will freeze the feet of high octane athletes who want blow up your precision timed offense.

Using a marker board, Coach Murphy draws out each play against both the 4-3 and 5-2 defenses, complete with blocking assignments and rules for each play to highlight the nuances of blocking against even and odd fronts. After diagramming each play he shows how the play is run through practice video. Each play is viewed from the press box and from the end zone.

Coach Murphy shows variations of the counter that will get the ball to different playmakers while running the counter play. These variations start out looking like one play and then transform into a two-headed monster. The more looks you have the more deception you have offensively. This puts the defense on their heels and destroys any rhythm to make plays.

You'll also learn how you can add a shovel pass to the counter run blocking scheme. The shovel play is very deceptive and the defense can't help but key on your tailback's movement. The movement of the tailback and quarterback will act as blockers by freezing defenders. The wing gets mixed in the trash as he moves along the line of scrimmage and receives a pass from the quarterback. The wing hits his point of attack leaving the defense in his wake. This can make your offense very versatile while not using extra teaching time to teach the play.

Whether you run the double wing offense or not, Coach Murphy's instruction will help you implement and use counter plays to create big play opportunities.

FD-04224F: with Tim Murphy, Clayton Valley (CA) High School Head Coach; 2012 Division II North Coast CIF Champions; In 2012 ranked first in the state of California (DII) in scoring (54 ppg); total yards (over 500 ypg) and rushing (over 400 ypg); During his 13 years of running the Double Wing Offense, Murphy has won four CIF titles, 10 league championships and has been ranked in the Top 50 in the nation three times!

Tim Murphy's understanding of the run game makes his pass game devastating. As defenses try to stop the power game they struggle to prepare for the pass. The Shotgun Double Wing opens up the passing game by allowing routes to develop, letting your quarterback see the field and providing deeper routes.

Make defenses cover the width of the field using:

  • Trap Pass - A one man route can be a game changer. Murphy gives you three plays off the trap look. These plays are used when the defense is trying to sneak up and stop your run. This pass play provides your tight ends a variety of routes to choose from without showing any tendencies. The defense will not be clued in by formation. You will learn pass patterns to exploit Cover 2 and 3 for huge, game breaking plays.
  • Power Series Passing Game - Since power is the base play of the whole offense, the power play action pass must be a staple of your offense. A two-man route that gives your quarterback choices to throw to downfield, the Power Series is an ideal way to use your fleet-footed quarterback to blow up defenses schemes with his electric feet. The defense will be fooled into thinking run and will be completely out of position for this explosive play.
  • Sprint Passing Game - Provide your quarterback plenty of depth to buy time and survey the field. Every lineman in this play takes a three step Trojan pull then turns to protect backside away from the rolling out quarterback. You get a flood concept from your receivers giving your quarterback three throwing options to throw to and, as he's rolling out, he is a threat to run, putting the defense in breakdown mode. You will see a variety of pass patterns to manipulate the most disciplined defenses.
  • To finish the video Coach Murphy delivers several plays to add to your passing arsenal; sprint pass throwback, joker pass, joker pass zip and jailbreak. You'll also get an effective screen pass to help negate a strong pass rush.

Many of the pass plays offered have optional routes. This allows receivers to read the defensive backfield and decide on the best route. Passing from the shotgun allows the quarterback to see the field better and allows the offense to set his passing pocket in different locations.

Adding a potent passing game to your double wing will make it all the more lethal!

Confuse opposing offenses using multiple defensive looks.

Rick Stewart took over a struggling program that had never won a playoff game. By implementing this multiple attack defense, he led the Gang Green to consecutive Sectional Final appearances, including a season where they finished 12-1 and became League Champions.

Coach Stewart demonstrates how to blend the 4-2-5, 4-4, and the 3-4 defenses together through an amazingly simple concept. He diagrams his defense in a chalk talk before showing you practice video of his players adjusting to all of the possible formations. Goals and alignments versus every offensive formation are covered in detail. The unique "Gang Green" defensive concept allows the defensive front 7 the same reads and assignments for all three defenses employed.

You'll get Coach Stewart's six-step tackling sequence to develop the proper tackling technique in his players as well as eight tackling drills used in his tackling circuit.

Coach Stewart also walks you through the installation sequence in spring, summer, and August. He then shows you his daily practice plans during the season.

As a bonus, practice video of five different pursuit drills are shown that you can use in place of wind sprints, allowing your team to learn great technique as you condition with a purpose.

This is a great video that will help build a solid defense for any high school or middle school program.

Rick Stewart uses Power Point, drill walk through, and practice and game footage to teach his stinging 4-2-5 'Gang Green' Multiple Defense that blends the 4-4, 4-2-5 and 3-4 defenses together with simplicity.

Coach Stewart begins by outlining his team's defensive rules, guidelines and philosophies to paint a clear picture for each defensive lineman's role and their importance to the defense. He teaches alignment, including various audible and visual cues you can use to get your players in the right position, while reacting to what is happening in front of them. The alignment and techniques are presented from the defensive end, tackle and nose positions. Stunts such as the slant, crash, pinch and jet are used in addition to others.

See how each individual position in this system is coached in a practice setting using "Every Day Drills." Defensive Ends are taught how to defeat blocks such as the down block, reach block, base block, trap blocks and others. Interior linemen are taught to take on similar blocks, but more emphasis is given to defeating double team blocks and how to play the pulling lineman and schemes. Throughout the video, Stewart emphasizes alignment, gap responsibility and hand placement.

On the field, Stewart uses a step-by-step drill progression to show the fundamental techniques for each position. He also uses game footage to show how all the drills and techniques come together in a game environment.

In addition to the specifics of line play, tackling drills are demonstrated that directly link the techniques used on the line to stop the run.

Defensive line play is extremely important in the game of football. Coach Stewart's teams have set a standard of play that has allowed them to become one of the top teams in the state of California. By stacking your defensive lineman and using these techniques, your defense is sure to make marked improvement for years to come.

In easy to understand terminology, Rick Stewart shows how to develop game-changing inside linebackers in the 'Gang Green' 4-2-5 Multiple Defense, which confuses offenses by combining the 4-4, 3-4, and 4-2-5 with surprising simplicity.

By playing 20 technique linebackers over uncovered guards in all 3 defenses, linebackers are better able to make clean reads and react aggressively. This video will take you through position specific drills and explain how the inside linebackers fit into the overall scheme of this defense.

Through PowerPoint diagrams, practice demonstrations and game footage - with both end zone and sideline angles - you will learn the proper coaching points and practice drills that will allow your inside linebackers to play fast and aggressive.

In the first segment, Coach Stewart discusses the difference between fast and tough run fits. He diagrams his daily window drills with six different run fits that teach linebackers how to effectively read guards and react instinctively to offensive line blocking schemes. The team run fits for fast flow, split flow and counter flow are also discussed to provide a big picture view of inside linebacker in this scheme.

In the second segment, Stewart diagrams and shows tackling drills that specifically reinforce techniques for inside linebackers.

The third segment covers pass drops and blitz schemes utilized in the 4-2-5, 4-4, and 3-4 defenses. In the final segment it is all brought together with game footage from both the sideline and end zone angles to demonstrate how effective this method has been for Coach Stewart.

This video is ideal both for coaches looking to adopt a new defensive scheme and coaches wanting to improve the play of their inside linebackers in any 4-2-5, 3-4 or 4-4 defense.

These drills and techniques will help you develop the complete inside linebacker that plays fast and aggressive.

Build a multiple defense using the principles of the 4-2-5, 4-4 and 3-4 defenses to dominate opponents.

Rick Stewart has put together a very detailed video that will help any defense. He demonstrates how to build this system with simple alignment rules and limited assignment changes for his defensive backs and outside linebackers. You will never have to change the alignment, read, or run fit of your two inside linebackers.

Throughout the video, Coach Stewart discusses using cover 2, 3, and 4, with cloud and sky concepts. His whiteboard descriptions explain the differences in each coverage and how to use all of them with limited changes for the outside linebackers and defensive backs. He dedicates a great deal of discussion to route combinations and how they are handled in each coverage. He also includes detailed description of run fits and technique that are interchangeable between coverage schemes.

After his description of each coverage, the focus turns to individual technique and drills. As Stewart points out, his playbook determines the drills. Every drill is designed to simulate game situations seen in their multiple defensive looks. You will see whiteboard diagrams and descriptions of four drills for his backpedal progression, five tackling drills used for the defensive backs, and seven coverage drills for 1-,3-, and 5-step routes. Also covered are specific drills for the outside linebackers that concentrate on defeating four types of blocks, pass coverage and tackling. The whiteboard session is followed with on-field video of players executing each drill.

Stewart also covers group pursuit drills that are done in group sessions with only the defensive backs and outside linebackers. Using this system, your team will embody the motto, "eleven helmets, one poor soul".

This multiple defense allows for a simplistic approach to a system that will seem complex to your opponent. Your team will spend time mastering simple assignments while your opponent spends time preparing for multiple defensive strategies.

When most people hear the words "Spread Option" one thing that rarely comes to mind is the Run Game. In this football DVD, Anthony Pratley demonstrates how to run the triple option run game out of the Spread Option by using the Pistol formation to create an effective rushing attack.

The innovator of the Pistol Spread Option Offense, Coach Pratley, draws up the zone, veer, option, midline and trap against many different fronts. Then takes it a step further--he teaches you how to run the triple option on the backside of these basic plays, showing how the blocking and reads stay the same no matter what the defense gives you. He also shows a unique way to teach and recognize what kind of option needs to be run against certain defenses.

All of these plays out of the pistol spread formation, if run correctly, will be very difficult for any defense to defend.

The basic rules and blocking assignments make it quick and easy to teach yet highly effective on any given play. Pratley also takes you through game film after every chalk board session to really bring home the concept.

Having a traditional option on the backside of play is like expanding your playbook three-fold, but only teaching a few basic plays.

Anthony Pratley delivers the new look Pistol Spread Option with a Triple Threat Run Game. This video includes the different phases of the running game including Zone Read, Jet and the Power game in the Pistol Spread Option. He also demonstrates how to use formations like the empty set and Wildcat to give the defense a variety of looks.

Pratley walks you through the basics of the Triple Threat Run Game and dissects it into the pieces you need to implement it. He breaks down the zone blocking rules for the offensive line with easy-to-remember terms to block any defensive front. He breaks down the three types of steps lineman need to know to execute these plays, and he teaches "help calls" to modify blocking techniques through the course of a game.

Pratley provides "tag" words to make every base play into a triple option. Pratley then discusses different ways to run the play by simply changing your read player.

Once the zone read triple option is covered, Pratley goes over his power blocking scheme, which has very similar rules making it easy for the offensive line to remember. And of course, all of the power plays have a triple option element built into them by using the same tag words as before. So you're really only teaching two plays, with two ways to block, yet with all the tag words and lineman calls it changes your two plays into 15+ powerful running plays.

Pratley uses an animated PowerPoint, diagrams and game footage to clearly teach each step in implementing a successful triple option run game into any offensive system.

Defenses will have to spend time and energy preparing for what looks like an extremely diverse offense, while for your players will find it simple to understand and execute. This system can get the ball into your playmakers hands in many different ways!

The Option game has always lacked one major thing to make it an effective and viable come-from-behind offense--the passing game. Now Anthony Pratley shows you how to incorporate an effective passing game into the Pistol Spread Option Offense.

Coach Pratley goes into great detail on the ins and outs of his high powered pistol offense. Using easy to remember tag phrases and simple blocking solutions for blitzing defenses, Pratley dissects the passing game into three essential pieces: the short passing game, play-action passes, and the deep passing game giving you a unique, explosive way to get the ball down the field for the big play.

He breaks down the route combinations and illustrates how to get the defense into a look that you want using simple motions and shifts. Coach Pratley details everything from the QB footwork and reads to the route concepts and what each concept is designed to attack.

The video teaches quarterbacks the correct reading progression and defensive keys and alignments to make simple, highly effective throws. Pratley provides keys on how and when the play action game is most effective and how to stretch the field and have a "home run" play on every passing snap.

What makes this video unique is that it is a multiple passing attack simplified for all levels of competition. Not only does Coach Pratley illustrate his passing attack, but he also gives the read progression and blocking assignments for the offensive line and running backs to take advantage of the defenses weak points.

He uses an animated PowerPoint, diagrams and game footage to drive home each step in implementing a successful passing game into any offensive system.

This video is a must have for any passing offense that wants to have multiple options to effectively complement the pistol offense.

University of Oregon Offensive Line Coach;

Have you wondered how the Oregon offense can line up and come off the ball so quickly and run the ball so effectively? Join longtime Oregon Coach Steve Greatwood as he discusses the concepts and techniques that have made Oregon's Inside and Outside Zone play so successful.

In this DVD, he will explain how to:

  • Streamline the communication up front when running an up-tempo offense
  • Identify the defensive front in the blink of an eye
  • Teach zone blocking technique whether covered or uncovered
  • Identify a "point" defender and work simple line rules off of his alignment
The incredibly fast tempo of the Oregon offense puts enormous pressure on the defense. In a clinic setting, Coach Greatwood teaches the inside and outside zone concepts of the devastating Duck ground attack. The key to the zone running attack is the call from the center identifying the "point" defender; everyone else works from the center's call. You'll learn the "red" call, which identifies the three-technique side of the defense and the "white" call, which is used when there is a guard bubble. Using this information, the zone play may be run to a particular color as the entire line works together as one unit.

Coach Greatwood shares blocking rules for various defensive fronts, including the odd man front, the odd stack or 3-3 defense, and the "bear" front. Greatwood also explains the differences between inside and outside zone plays. Game footage is coached up as Greatwood covers the calls and techniques of each lineman giving you an opportunity to see how everything ties together.

Whether you are using an athletic quarterback and reading zone, running zone with fast screen concepts or blocking backside, this DVD is a must have.

Learn the basic concepts and drills used to install the Pistol Wing-T--a defensive coordinator's worst nightmare

Merging the ferocious intensity of the Direct Snap Wing-T with the slick deception of the Pistol Offense, Rick Stewart has proven that he can turn around a "down in the doldrums" program into a championship contender. Coach Stewart has used this offensive system to turn around three different schools that had poor records including 0-20, 1-19 and a team that won 8 games in the 5 years prior to his arrival. Coach Stewart led each team to the playoffs within his first two seasons at the helm.

In his DVD Coach Stewart takes you through the process of moving from the Wing-T into the Wing-T/Pistol hybrid. Stewart's offensive system maintains the high tempo, hit you in the mouth of the Wing-T and then adds the advantages of deception and the effective passing game of the Pistol. With his easy to follow style and his thoroughness of delivery, Stewart makes this DVD appropriate for coaches of all ages and from all styles.

Why the Pistol Wing-T?
This offense was born out of a need for variety, forcing defenses out of the box and allowing running backs to become a downhill threat; all with very few adjustments to the running backs and offensive line footwork.

System Overview
With the use of power point, practice and game video, Porterville's offensive system is drawn up and installed with a variety of coaching points. The plays that are shown include: The Buck Sweep Series, Down Series, Belly Series, Guard and Tackle Trap, Midline and Veer Options, Jet Sweep and portions of the passing game.

Terminology
Player tags and numbers, hole numbers, formations, key words and blocking schemes are all covered in this section. Also included is a segment on how Porterville calls their plays. Individual and Group Drills
Learn the key drills used to install and practice his offense. Using chalk talk, power point, practice and game footage, Coach Stewart walks you through well over 60 individual and group drills used to install and train players to run the Pistol Wing-T. The individual segment shows a variety of drills and key coaching points for each offensive position: Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, and Offensive Line. The group drills incorporate multiple positions and allow the pieces of the offense to come together in a timely fashion. Backfield drills and linemen drills are demonstrated with maximum efficiency to assure quality while maximize repetitions. Each drill is a building block of the Pistol Wing-T Offense.

Practice Plan
Porterville's offensive practice plan is shown and discussed thoroughly so that anyone wishing to install and run the Pistol Wing-T can do so in a relatively easy manner. A daily plan is outlined and variations and conditioning options are discussed.

If your team is looking to put points on the board, the Pistol Wing-T is definitely something you need to see. This offense will allow you to become more multiple, out flank the defense, make defensive coordinators go out of their mind and put more points on the board.

If you are a true Wing-T believer, you are always looking for new ways to unleash this powerful attack. Rick Stewart's Pistol Wing-T will keep the defense guessing and allow your backs to get downhill and hit the holes faster.

Coach Stewart covers the Pistol Wing-T run game within a basic Wing-T series approach. He will help you install 23 run plays from five different Wing-T series. Every play and series is presented first through a Smart Board power point presentation with diagrams and coaching points. These presentations are then followed by on-field demonstrations of each play carried out by a junior college football team learning the offense for the first time. The DVD concludes with Coach Stewart sharing actual game footage of each play, by series, from the Porterville Panther season.

Through Coach Stewart's presentation, you will learn:

  • How to build the offense and make adjustments against various defenses
  • Blocking rules that enable the OL to make quick adjustments versus odd and even fronts
  • The most effective blocking angles to assure success for your offense
  • How to use formations to create great blocking angles
  • How to set up the pass through the run
The attention to detail in this video will allow any coach to walk away with something useful for their offensive attack. If you are one of the Wing-T faithful, the payoff from this DVD is even greater allowing you the flexibility and change to keep your opponents guessing what you're going to do next, without losing the integrity of this powerful offense. More importantly you will be able to do so without any interruption to the learning process of your players.

Rick Stewart has taken the best from the Wing-T and the best from the Pistol and developed a winning combination. He has turned around three high school programs using his system to put defenders in conflict.

In this DVD, Coach Stewart takes you through four phases of his Pistol passing game. He starts with his sprint out passing game, moves to 3-step and 5-step route combinations, and finishes with his play action passing game. All phases of the pass game are covered with whiteboard play diagrams followed by game video of each play.

Sprint Out Passing Game
Starting with the sprint out passing game, Stewart explains his terminology and diagrams his numbered and tagged passing tree routes. This section of the video also offers pass protection schemes and demonstrates of how to incorporate jet motion into the sprint out package.

3- and 5- Step Route Combinations
The 3-step schemes use the bubble/funnel spread principles that allow you to quickly get the ball to your best athletes on the perimeter. Stewart discusses how to put slot defenders in conflict using the run game and quick 3-step route combinations. The 5-step game puts additional stress on the defense using an easy-to-learn system that includes crossing routes from a variety of positions.

Play Action
Last but not least, the Pistol play action passing game blends perfectly with traditional Wing-T run and pass principles. As Stewart points out, the traditional Wing-T play action passes are even better from the Pistol due to the longer "ride" on the play action fake. All the best Wing-T play actions are covered, including; Waggle, Belly pass, and Veer and Midline pass plays.

This system will allow your team to stress the defense from sideline-to-sideline, vertically, and in-between the tackles. This is every defensive coordinator's worst nightmare.

His nickel package deploys the 4-2-5 look and he points out the importance of pass rush lane integrity by the defensive line. Coach Curtis also discusses the opportunity to bring five defenders from his 50-front and how the "bluff" position by his linebackers creates problems for offensive line protections. All of the adjustments and techniques are thoroughly demonstrated and explained.

For a successful season, make J.T. Curtis' proven method of organization part of your practice plans. Add in the 50 front adjustments to the ever-popular spread offense and create mismatches and havoc on opponents.

Wide Receiver Fundamentals: Releases and Route Running

with Brent Brennen, Oregon State University Wide Receivers Coach;
finalist for the FootballScoop Wide Receiver Coach of the Year; Oregon State finished second in the Pac-12 in pass offense per game in 2012

The spread offense is exploding across the nation and understanding wide receiver play has never been more important. Oregon State University's Brent Brennan offers techniques for all skill levels to help receivers create the space necessary to be successful against the press defense.

Coach Brennan starts with a simple "jab step" release and builds six releases off of it. The double fake incorporates an in-out-in progression or an out-in-out release. The "speed and fire slant" releases use quickness while the "beast" release is a physical counter to very tight press coverage defenders. A receiver who can't get off the line of scrimmage is an ineffective receiver and often allows coverage sacks on his quarterback. Coach Brennan shows you how to avoid that trap.

Nine different separation techniques that give receivers countless ways to destroy man coverage are demonstrated. Once the receiver has developed a foundation with the "jab step" and "double fake," he can advance to more advanced techniques like the "change of pace" and the "nod step" or "staircase." Coach Brennan also presents the "speed turn shoulder roll" techniques when route running and more!

Using video footage, Coach Brennan discusses key points of each technique so that coaches know what each one looks like. He also shows examples of how it is not supposed to look, which is helpful because it provides information on mistakes that are commonly made while learning the technique.

This video is a great choice for any coach or player who wants to improve wide receiver skills and knowledge of the game.

Youth Football Fundamentals: Tackling and Pursuit Techniques & Drills

with Jack Gregory,
President, Double Wing Symposium

Youth coaches, are you ready to experience a systematic tackling progression that teaches kids how to tackle the right way? Jack Gregory shows you how to teach the basic techniques and fundamentals of tackling that are safe and effective.

Tackling Drills
Gregory diagrams proper techniques before taking you to the practice field for a live demonstration of his tackling drill progression featuring players from his youth team. His teaching covers:

  • The three step progression L.E.G.; "Load" your body, "Explode" up into the runner, "Go" through the ball carrier at full speed
  • A sequence of basic, intermediate and advanced tackling drills so you can adjust your practice depending on our players' ability
  • How teaching the proper way to fall will reduce your teams injuries
  • Coaching "cue words" that allows the players to learn the proper technique quickly

Starting with the Bag Drill, Coach Gregory takes you through four basic drills that teach the L.E.G. tackling system. This tackling progression develops a youth player's tackling technique and skills set by using various angles and aiming points on the ball carrier.

Intermediate drills such as Spin Tackle and Quick Angle force the tackler to "lock and load" on the ball carrier. Advanced drills challenge the players with game-like conditions. The shed is introduced as well as seven different drills that train players to be tackling machines.

Pursuit Drills
Gregory's pursuit progression features six drills that help train players to take a good angle to the ball and make tackles or create a turnovers. In a unique twist, Gregory shows the drills using a soccer ball, which allows you to control the speed and angle of attack, while getting in a lot of reps. You can simulate off tackle, sweep, iso, and even pass plays by throwing the ball where it needs to be.

The pursuit drills start in an individual, non-contact format to teach the angle of attack while reinforcing technique. Gregory adds one-on-one drills that focus on squaring up to the ball carrier or beating him to the perimeter. The progression includes a four-player force-and-contain drill and a back five pursuit drill that introduces a "Shoot Defender" (or a mike linebacker), while maintaining inside and outside leverage.

With just a few modifications, these drills can be used with any defense.

Shut down your opponent and keep your players safe this season with these essential tackling and pursuit drills.
